Patent Lawsuit Settled On Behalf of TrafficGauge®, Inc. (DOC)

Protecting Real Time Traffic Information

SEATTLEFebruary 8, 2008 — TrafficGauge’s patent licensing partner, Mobile Traffic Systems Corporation (MTSC) which is a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTG) of Newport Beach, CA, has settled patent litigation against Cobra Electronics Corporation of Chicago, IL. This had been pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.

The settlement with Cobra represents one part of a larger patent infringement lawsuit filed in 2007 against some of the biggest companies engaged in the consumer GPS navigation market. The lawsuit filed against Garmin USA, Inc. (Nasdaq: GRMN), Cobra Electronics Corporation (Nasdaq: COBR), TomTom, Inc. (Euronext: TOM2), and privately held Magellan Navigation, Inc. claims infringement of patents involving the display and transmission of wireless traffic information.

“TrafficGauge was the first company to deliver traffic data via broadcast technology, now we see it’s the technology of choice for companies delivering traffic information,” said Ryan Peterson, TrafficGauge CEO, founder and patent inventor. “We’re pleased our partners are successfully settling cases which vindicate my hard earned pioneering efforts in developing technologies to improve the lives of commuters.

At the center of the lawsuit is the technology that delivers real time traffic information through GPS navigation devices. The technology allows the collection of traffic data from multiple sources, which then can be sent wirelessly to hand-held and mobile devices to visually display highway traffic maps and corresponding traffic congestion information. TrafficGauge®, Inc. has been selling products using this technology since 2003 and has validated the usefulness of its’ patent protected products.

The licensed technology generally relates to system and methods for transmitting, receiving and displaying traffic information on portable handheld and mobile displays. This technology is used to identify traffic congestion and can be used with in-vehicle navigation displays and portable handheld units such as cell phones and PDA’s.
